Behind The Lens

Location

My job as a Surface Landman takes me to some unique places in Alberta. I was doing some work around Wandering River (about 2 hours South of Fort McMurray) when I saw this old house in the distance. I took about a half dozen different pictures of it and went on my way. When I finally was able to download and review the photos, I noticed this one stood right out.

Time

I was morning, probably around 8:30. I had an appointment with a landowner at 9:00 and was on my way to see him.

Lighting

As the morning was bright and sunny, there was nothing I could do to change the lighting but I think it worked out well.I just made sure the sun was behind me.

Equipment

I used my trusty Canon Rebel XTi with Sigma lens and no tripod, I just held it steady for the shot.

Inspiration

I love photos of old buildings and just thought, here is another one that I can add to my collection.

Editing

No, I hardly did anything at all, just a fine crop and rotate was needed.

In my camera bag

I'm still learning and growing as a photographer but I always have my Canon Rebel XTi, Amazon Prime tripod (yup, I that's what I use and its great! - I wasn't even paid to say that!) The usual assortment of filters and of course my Sigma 18-250mm zoom! Love that thing!

Feedback

They say if you don't like the weather in Alberta, wait 5 minutes and it'll change! This wasn't planned but I always carry my photo gear with me and never pass up on an opportunity to take some photos! Had it been foggy that morning I may not have been able to see the old house as some zooming in was required. Advice - Keep your camera(s) with you at all times!
