Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Malta (while I lived there for a while)- Dingli cliffs where I usually went to catch some shots of the stars.

Time

It was around 1or 2 am not sure now because of beer reasons.

Lighting

I went out to take photos of stars and saw the radar station and how much light pollution it created and the clouds that came towards me along with 90% of humidity, so I thought I will see if I can capture it, I did not expect to see any stars, so that was an added bonus.

Equipment

I used Canon 600d with a Rokinon 14mm f2.8 lens, a Haynes gig at pro wireless remote and a Manfrotto tripod.

Inspiration

Like I mentioned before the inspiration was the amount of light that that radar station produced and the clouds that started to appear.

Editing

Yes, just a white balance correction, clarity and few adjustments to light levels in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

Now I have a few Hahnell Gita T pro wireless remotes since I tend to break them, 10stop ND filter, polarising an UV filter, Canon 6d, Rokinon 14mm f 2.8, canon 50mm f1.8 and a cheap Sigma 70-300 lens. Quite often I will have my old 600d and a GoPro3 black edition, along with a few lens and sensor cleaning bits and attached to the bag will be a Manfrotto tripod.

Feedback

Experiment, I think Iso was 1600 f2.8 and a 30 second exposure on cropped sensor and 28 on full frame, always check the humidity outside as if it is too humid your lens will fog up and will need cleaning after every shot. And don't go for those cheap tripods that start wobbling after a shutter release, it is best to spend some money and to get something sturdy.
