Location
I shot this photo from the Eastern side of the Tasman Bridge in Hobart Tasmania. This bridge is our link from the west to east and crosses over the Derwent River.Time
I shot this at 9.02pm on the 18th June.Lighting
Exposure time is vital for this kind of shot at night, sometimes when there are lots of bright light at night you may not need a long exposure, especially if you have a camera that handles low light wellEquipment
I shot this with my Nikon D610 on my tripod, shot on manual ISO 1250, 30 second exposure at F22 Nikon 24mm-85mm lens with focal length at 24mm. No flash.Inspiration
Every winter here in Hobart we have a winter festival called Dark Mofo, there are all kinds of lighting displays set up to light up the winter darkness and encourage people to come out at night and enjoy the winter feast and festivities. This was the first time the bridge had been lit up red and it looked so amazing I had to get a shot of it along with the main light attraction the big blue beam to the left of the shot, Hobart city is is the back ground all lit up with the houses and city lights. Our bridge and river look beautiful at night at the best of times but the red lighting made it sensational to see, will be sad when they switch it back to normal lights.Editing
All I did in post processing was some very minimal noise reduction, sharpened, straightening and clarity adjustmentsIn my camera bag
I have recently swapped to Nikon so my baf is minimal I have a D610, Nikkor 70300mm 24-85 1.35-4.5g and a 50mm 1.8d lens, am working on increasing it but it has been an expensive change over from my Sony a77.Feedback
You just need a good tripod an understanding of F stops and Iso for these kind of shots. I have found with this kind of light a high iso and 30 second exposure is fine. It all comes down to practice, practice practice.
