Behind The Lens
Location
At my hometown - Caldas da Rainha. Portugal. As almost 99 % of my photos. The photos about ordinary moments of life nowadays on the streets may allow, in the near future, to document, read and think more deeply about a time and a place where they were made. In this case about some aspects of life in a small town in central Portugal because almost all images were made in Caldas da Rainha. “One of the most difficult things as a street photographer is to create something special out of ordinary moments. Even more difficult is to do this when at home– where everything seems so boring, so everyday, so routine.” - David Alan HarveyTime

I use a Canon Mark III and Canon 5DSR with lenses: 11-24mm and 24-70mm. And now a Leica Q from a month ago. But I think we should not be a slave of photographic technique - which should not override the style, emotion and aesthetic sensibility. The medium of photography is not as important as the image itself. The "soul" of the image is more important than the technical details. When I appreciate a great photo I do not ask "how?" but "why?".There are differences between a piano and a sonata. You can have a great piano and cannot produce good music.Inspiration
As usual I was doing my daily walk on the streets to make some photos. At some moment I noticed coming in the distance, in a particular street, an elderly woman walking with difficulty. Next to me was a magnificent advertisement talking about orthopedic mattresses with a photo of a beautiful model. I realized a possible narrative with an irresistíble counterpoint..Then I walked toward the elderly woman (D. Rosa) and after a brief conversation she agreed that I would make the photograph. Then I went back to the announcement of mattresses and waited for D. Rosa. As soon as she came close I did the picture with a wide angle.Editing
I use Lightroom and PS tools. But only to little adjustments(tonal curve, shadows, light, etc.). I do not like overediting. In my camera bag
A great example from corindimopoulos: “The first thing I always pack is my Canon 85mm 1.2 prime. A monkey could take an amazing picture with that lens, and given I am not that much more evolved, it has become my Photography is an effective attempt to connect with the material world around me. It was easier in complete serenity of nature. Now it is a major risk when I'm surrounded in the city by strangers. Street Photography is probably the most challenging genre of photography. I'm still walking the streets and talking to strangers to be able to escape from loneliness. Without Street Photography I probably could not exist.Feedback
Always walk with a camera, walk a lot and enjoy the chance. The daily miracles are awaiting for you. Live photography with passion - without restrictions and stay focused on each image you are doing. After looking once go back and look again. Visit the same sites and try to discover new opportunities Patience is a key. To build your own style takes a long time. Without denying all the influences that may have – must be genuine. Try to work "out of the box" and shoot each picture as if it were the last. Find inspiration looking often at books with photos of the great Masters and see many good exhibitions. Challenge the rules and always try to evolve gradually transforming the photographic eye. The rules act as a guide for people who is beginning to take pictures. After that they are no longer necessary. Everything comes and flows naturally. But the most important is to try always to find your own voice.
