Behind The Lens

Location

The photograph was taken at Lake Calafquen, Region de los Rios, Chile. It is a place where I always go on vacation, the background is the Volcan Villarrica and the bird is a Yeco, what was drying its wings.

Time

It was about 11:00 AM. My goal was to observe the birds of lakes, for which carrying binoculars and camera.

Lighting

The clouds caught my attention, but all the elements in the picture, the bird, the lake, the sunken pier, the snowcapped volcano, the islands, all contrasted with the winter sun and tranquility of the landscape. Elements that led me to emphasize the coldness of light.

Equipment

Use a Nikon D3000 with a lens Sigma 70-300mm APO DG Macro. That day was not wearing tripod.

Inspiration

He was learning to use the lens for landscape photographs, I had read many photographers use, and select the best and removed from the scene other elements. Instead of concentrating on the volcano, my intention was to include the environment, peace of a calm lake, the bird resting and clouds dispersed revealing the volcano. It is a photograph that connects me with nature.

Editing

Yes and a lot, because the original photograph was loaded to white, overexposed. It was intentional because I wanted to work with black and contrasts in landscape photography. Use Adobe Lightroom 5 (RAW to JPG).

In my camera bag

Currently, I still have the Nikon D3000, Sigma 70-300 lens. For portraits 85mm 35mm 1.8 and 1.8. In the city, I go out occasionally to take pictures of street. I prefer to invest in lenses for camera, maybe one day I buy another camera.

Feedback

First enjoy the environment, the landscape and its elements, watch, enjoy the moment. Then look for the picture to remind us that moment of connection with nature. Something we forget in our busy lives in the city. ( I use Spanish-English translator. Thank you very much, from Chile)
