Location
Finding a place to take indoor photos is not always easy, so sometimes I have to make use of available space. In this case it was the upstairs area of a local bookstore. The owners just happen to be my daughter and son-in-law.Time
Both model and I were very busy due to our jobs, so we had to take advantage of what little free time we could find. For this photo session we planned it to take place just before her dinner date later that evening. She was very relaxed and the entire session lasted less than 20 minutes. Afterward, she went on to have a great time.Lighting
I wanted to use simple lighting to bring out the natural beauty and eyes of the model, so I went with one strobe (beauty dish) and a large round golden reflector. The beauty dish produced a very soft even tone and also added a perfectly round shape catch light in the model's eyes.Equipment
This photo was taken with a Nikon D600, with Nikon 135mm DC f/2 lens, a Bowens 21" Beauty Dish with diffuser, and large golden reflector.Inspiration
I had taken photos of the model before, and this time we wanted to do something different, so the idea was to use a Red Cape. We wanted a look that would make her look innocent and beautiful at the same time. I envisioned taking photos of someone in a red cape before, and Nadine was just the person to make it workEditing
Very little post editing was needed, however, Photoshop Lightroom and Photoshop CC were excellent in evening out skin tone.In my camera bag
When taking portraits my go to lens is the Nikon 85mm 1.4, Nikon 50mm 1.4, and Nikon 135mm DC. For landscape my favorite lens is the Nikon 14-24mm and 16-35mm. For serious micro work, I go with the Nikon 200mm and 70-180mm micro lens. And given that I love nature photography so much, I normally don't leave home without my favorite Nikon lens, the 200-500mm. My DSLRs are Nikon D800E, D600, and D500. All three are capable of capturing great photos in many different situations.Feedback
When taking closeup portraits, its important that the makeup is almost perfect. In this case, the choice of makeup didn't take away from the photo. Additionally, try keeping it simple and focus on the eyes.
