Thelymitra variegata (Queen of Sheba) is a native orchid from the south west area of Western Australia. She's rather elusive and it took me 8 years to find my first one. Have photographed every year since. This one is more red than usual but this is the colour she was ~ usually more blue-voilet and often with stronger yellow markings on petal edges.

Superb photography using available light to good effect. Love the natural bush background, with the earth colors balancing the intoxicating mix of pinks, violets and yellows in this beautiful ground orchid. Very well done!

Thanks so much for your comment Irene... there will always be natural background as I take ALL my wildflowers in the wild right where they are. I get really mad when I find that some pik them or worse dig them up and try to take them home... they'll neer grow at home, they're just destroying the bush. Some of these are beoming so rare now.

They are very early this year... already flowering in some areas (usually late Aug).
