Location
My love for wildlife has taken me to various different places, such as the mountains of Montana to photograph wolfs, to the far off country of Africa where I photographed Elephants and Lions to places closer to my home in Canada where I travel locally to find the wild horses of our country and even to Local zoo's. Which is actually where this beauty was. He is from one of the Zoos close to my home and where I go to visit quite often. He is a majestic male with quite a personality as you can see in his eyes.Time
This image was captured in the early morning hours, around 7 a.m. I had the privilege of being allowed access to the grounds before the public to go in for a photographers dream hours to capture the animals before the crowds and people make them turn to shelter.Lighting
The early morning sun was just coming up on him and he was basking in it like the king he is. making for a wonderful glow to his main on the one side while putting his body into the shadows. From there I went to B&W to just give it more of the elegant look that I wanted for him.Equipment
I shoot with a canon 70D, with a 70-200mm 2.8 Lens. I shot freehand with out a tripod, and no flash just nature morning light.Inspiration
The look in his eyes and the scars on his nose drew me to capture him in this setting and environment. I was trying to get his true nature and show that even though he is not in the wilds of his home land he is still the King in all his glory.Editing
The only post -processing I did was to crop down a bit and darken the shadows more with the B&W finish. In my camera bag
I don't have a large bag of toys, I just carry my camera, and four basic lenses. I have the 70-200 f2.8 sigma, 150-600 f4.5 tameron, 17-200 f2.8 tameron, and a fixed 55 f4.5 canon. I carry a trigger switch and lots of cards and batteries. That is all, I find I can get anything I am after with this.Feedback
The only advice I could give is to just keep shooting. Never give up on your dreams you never know what you will end up with. watch for that perfect shot and be ready to capture it. I took several shots of this guy from every angle I could to get the one perfect shot. Be patient stay calm and shot shot shot. I haven't been shooting for that long and am still learning every day. Learn what your camera can do and the lenses as well what they are capable of, you will get a lot of nothing but you will get that something special and when you do WOW the rewards it will bring you will be worth all the time spent.
