Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my backyard

Time

Very late afternoon/early evening.

Lighting

I wanted a very simple photo with just emphasize on the two calla lilies and a little bit of a warm tone from the natural light. I picked an area of mostly open shade but just a little bit of the late afternoon/early evening sun spilling through onto part of the flowers.

Equipment

I used Canon EOS 70D with Canon EFS 18 - 55 mm lens. That's it.

Inspiration

I wanted to create a photo with the two callas standing out from a plain background. I'm, unbelievably, also intrigued by color and how they affect each other, as well as, how they affect the overall mood of the photo and the viewers.

Editing

Very minimal. Mainly just adjusting contrast and color slightly.

In my camera bag

My camera, Canon EOS 70D and three canon lenses: EFS 18-55 mm, EFS 55-210 mm, and 50 mm prime lens. That's pretty much it. I never use flash and I hardly ever use a tripod. So very simple and 99.5% of my photos are with natural daylight.

Feedback

Know how you want the photo to look like even though you might end up with something different. Have fun and I recommend open shade if photographing outdoors. Mainly keep it clean and simple.
