This photo was taken at Banzai Pipeline on the north shore of OahuTime
In the late afternoonLighting
I like to shoot either early in the morning or later in the day when the sun is lower in the sky and lights up the wave from behindEquipment
Taken with a Canon 7D and my new 300mm lens.Inspiration
I don't know who the surfer is but he was really doing a great job. I don't usually like to shoot surfers, preferring to shoot empty waves but I had to make an exception here. Normally this time of day a surfer just shows up as a silhouette but since he was up high on the wave the sun was able to light him up a bit.Editing
Some lighting adjustments in lightroomIn my camera bag
I really like my new Cannon 300 mm prime lens, its much lighter than my 70-200 and It gets closerFeedback
Keep experimenting in the manual setting. Its pretty impossible to get a good shot of a wave with auto settings.
