Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Monk Coniston boat landing in the Lake District.

Time

The photo was taken just before dawn on a lovely peaceful October morning.

Lighting

I just love the early morning light with just a hint of red in the sky contrasting with pastel blues.

Equipment

Canon EOS 600D with a Sigma 10-20mm lens mounted on a tripod and using a cable release.

Inspiration

I just love the Lake District and just being there is inspiration enough for me. I especially like the early morning because of the peace and quiet. This is one of my favourite locations in the lake District.

Editing

Just a crop and and a bit of unsharp mask. I always shoot in Raw.

In my camera bag

I now have a Canon EOS7D mark 2, a Canon EOS 600D, 2 Canon G10 compacts one of which is converted to shoot infrared, a Canon 60mm macro lens, a Sigma 10-20mm zoom, a Canon 18-55mm lens, a Tamron 18-270mm lens a selection of neutral density grads and full ND filters and a Canon 430EX Speedlite.

Feedback

Make the effort to get up early for the best light. Use a tripod for greater control of exposure (the ability to use slow shutter speeds without camera shake). Become familiar with your location so you can find the best angles and know when the light is at its' best. Study the weather forecast to savea wasted journey and to get some idea of what conditions will be like.
