Port Weld is a coastal fishing village 16km from Taiping in Perak, Malaysia, which named after the former governor Frederick Weld during English Straits Settlement in Malaysia in 1885. The railway from Port Weld to Taiping was the 1st railway line in the Peninsular, which played a vital role during the heyday of tin mining. Not far from Port Weld is the Matang Mangrove Forest which provides tress for the charcoal sunset industry. The trees are kept in the kiln for baking, it takes about 24 days to become charcoal. The fire has to be non-stopped until the process is completed. I was so lucky that the charcoal factory I visited, one of the kilns was baking, I managed to capture the vibrant glowing fire in the kiln! The sunset, the tour of the charcoal factory, the Mangrove Forest, the local seafood cuisine have turned a new chapter of this village.
