As I am a little bit "agoraphobic" photographing in public, most of my shots are in my own backyard, like this little guy in this photo. I purposely purchased dill because I knew the plant attracts this beauty - did not disappoint! There were a couple siblings as well on the dill. It was such a joy to watch the growth and be a part of the life cycle, as well as involving my grandkids, who were thrilled watching nature unfold! Beauty is around us all, even in our collective backyard!Time
This photo was taken late in the day toward sunset on my patio.Lighting
For me, it's ALWAYS all about available light, albeit partly b/c I need a class in correct usage of flash!! lolEquipment
My camera is Nikon D5100. The lens I used this time was Micro Nikkor 60mm, hand-held, no flash. Love, love getting up close and personal.Inspiration
I had been observing the development of this swallowtail from a tiny black dot to this plump little caterpillar. When I focused my camera and saw in the viewfinder this caterpillar happily munching on the dill stem w/o a care in the world I knew I had to capture and share this moment in time.... and yes, I took about 1,000 pics!!Editing
With this particular photo I didn't have to do much post-processing, aside from the cropping (the dark area to the upper right). I almost cropped all the dark area, but decided I did like the little bit of "mystery" it added to the overall effect, if that makes sense? I also did a bit of contrast (LR pro contrast) and ran it through LR Define, trying to manipulate the actual scene as little as possible. In my camera bag
Bag? What bag? I consider myself fortunate just to have a camera and a decent lens!! lolFeedback
Like real estate - location.... Photography - patience, patience, patience.... Be one with your subject whatever it is, even insects. They are really fascinating and do have little "personalities"... Okay, I think I'll stop there before I'm labeled "odd" lol Above all else, though, embrace your passion and love your surroundings. Continually push yourself to the next level, even if you think, "I could never do that..." You may surprise yourself!! Thank you for liking my photo, btw....
