Location
This photo was taken by the side of a pool in Mauritania. I was playing with light that day and loved how it sparkled on the wings of this dragonfly.Time
I can't always trust the time stamp on my camera as I travel a lot and sometimes forget to reset the clock. I believe this was taken in the early afternoon as kids were playing in the pool.Lighting
Being that it was the middle of the day, the lighting was very harsh. I had chased this dragonfly around the pool several times, trying to find the perfect light and then, of course, getting into the perfect position to catch the light on the small wings.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon xsi, 70-300 lens, no flash, handheld for quick movement.Inspiration
I love seeing light play off nature. I am not, by profession, a nature photographer (I prefer family portraits) but when I see something in nature that is joyful, I feel I have to capture it!Editing
I did some slight post-processing. I wanted to bring out the sparkle in the wings. I white-balace corrected and then added some clarity and luminosity. In my camera bag
My bag is always packed with my camera body, a canon (at this time an xsi but now a Canon 6D), a 70-300 lens as well as a 28-80 lens, Canon speedlight, several SD cards, filter pack for both the camera and the flash and various manuals (just in case).Feedback
As previously stated, I love to capture joy and light but I am not often "setting out" to do so. I find myself capturing images by chance. Take every opportunity to capture what you love and you will get the image that you want. Good luck!
