Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken in the busiest part of Kolkata, India, in front of the metro station of the central business district where hordes of shopkeepers sell cheap garments on the footpath.

Time

golden hour ,sunset.

Lighting

I knew I had only 15 minutes or so of god light falling from behind me, before the smog and trees block off the sun. This was shot looking east. So I decided to walk along the Grand Hotel Arcade for the 15 minutes and see if I find something interesting. At the end I did not find any good shot and was about to go inside the tunnel down to catch a Metro train back home. Just before I did, I decided to take a shot of the shopkeeper. Then I saw the young girl with the pattern on her clothing which created a story with the shop-owner's batman. So I took position and kept the camera aimed and watched out of the corner of eye to let her into the frame. Once in the frame it was a matter of timing her position. But she threw me one of those killer looks and I snapped immediately, put camera in bag and boarded the train. I had my shot of the day !

Equipment

It is an old Canon 350D with Tamron 17-50 f/2.8

Inspiration

The moment , that is all .

Editing

No. Just converted to B&W.

In my camera bag

The same camera / lens and nothing more.
