Location
This photo was taken at the Palm Beach Balloon show in 2015. The show was held at an equestrian center in Palm Beach County, FL.Time
The show actually began at dawn with maybe 50 balloonist filling the balloons with burners. Very colorful. At the time of this photo, maybe 8AM, they were preparing to launch.Lighting
Golden hour lighting. Perfect.Equipment
I was using a Sony A33, my 2nd Sony. I originally became interested in Sony because they had previously bought Minolta's camera operation and were still using the lens mount of the older Minolta cameras. Thus, I was able to resurrect 3 old lenses that I had from my "film" days. On this day, I was using a Sigma 70-300mm lens.Inspiration
Golden hour. Color. Recreation. I had previously seen photos of Arizona balloon shows, but had never seen one personally. Perfect opportunity!Editing
I don't remember, but, judging from the photo, probably. At the time, I was probably using Pixlr. Today, I would be using Adobe Creative Cloud. In my camera bag
I have a Sony A68 body, a Sigma 10-20mm wide angle, and a Sigma 18-300mm telephoto (macro). Interestly, I still have that old Sigma 70-300mm, which I use on "special" occasions, the reason being that I have a Sony 1.7x extender that fits it. I occasionally use the combo to shoot rocket launches at Kennedy Space Center. Thus far, they haven't met my wishes, so I haven't posted them. But I've shot some that were at least "definable" from as far as 15 miles away in Titusville. I also have the usual filters, remote shutter releases, batteries, chips, etc.Feedback
Get up early, pray for a clear day, and shoot, shoot, shoot! At an event like this, you're just about guaranteed great shots!
