Behind The Lens

Location

At a stately home that was used as a military hospital during the First World War. It is located in Cheshire, UK.

Time

Mid afternoon.

Lighting

The tunnel gives great contrast with good light before and beyond it.

Equipment

Canon 5D mkII - no flash.

Inspiration

It is the mood of the passage into the courtyard where wounded men would have been transported for initial treatment - it really gave me an eerie feeling and I felt I had to try to capture the somehow!

Editing

Yes just some clarity enhancement and desaturation in Lightroom as B&W I think is more emotive.

In my camera bag

Canon 5DmkII & 60D as a back up. 50mm lens and a couple of mid range lenses that aren't too heavy but are adaptable for most situations. Canon flash with a Gary Fong diffuser - the best I have used for portraiture on the go.

Feedback

It is all in the identification of the image in the first place. I would say just 'feel the mood' of the location, if you can open your senses and mind, use your imagination to transport yourself to the time (if it is an historical building) or into the event as its you were a nervous competitor etc. then you will stand a better chance of capturing the essence of the place in the shot.
