Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture right at the beginning of my photography journey. I spotted this cute caterpillar in my very small garden at a previous address.

Time

I took the picture late afternoon, the sun was always to the front of the house as the hours went by and it was by chance that I saw this cute little creature on a fuchsia plant.

Lighting

At this stage of taking photographs my awareness of light wasn't great but I knew that I had good enough light behind me to shoot into the shadows of the plant.

Equipment

This was shot on a compact Canon IXUS 145, the first camera I started using macro on which is one of my favourite forms of photography.

Inspiration

I was just playing around with my new camera and was keen to try out the macro function on it. There before me lay the perfect subject which led me to take many shots from various angles and I truly fell in love with macro photography.

Editing

I didn't use any post processing, back then all I knew was to point & shoot always aiming to get a good perspective & clear image.

In my camera bag

Since those days of my compact camera I have now moved up to Canon 750d. Still self teaching but have learnt much just by playing around and using different lenses. I always have spare batteries, a wide angle, macro & kit lens along with a tripod. I still have so much to learn and more equipment to get my head around but that is all part of this wonderful photography journey.

Feedback

Keep trying ...... I'm still trying to work it all out but I find with macro the more I move me the better shot I get, even if it means lying in the mud!!
