Location
This photo was taken in the backyard of my then home in State College, Pennsylvania.Time
This photo was taken early in the morning of a spring day. I woke up early and came downstairs to the kitchen to prepare coffee before starting my day. Glancing outside, I saw this tree branch adorned with these beautiful pink flowers and bending down almost touching the ground in their weight. The dew on the flowers, that was still fresh, made the scene exquisite. This stopped me in my tracks, I went back, grabbed my camera. The 50mm f/1.8 was already on it. I went outside in the fresh cool air of the morning and shot handheld.Lighting
This was taken early in the morning, the light from the new sun was still soft and warm. I knew that I wanted a shallow depth of field. I focused on the dew drop on the nearest flower and shot handheld. The other flowers in the background created a soft pink background.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D5100 with a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
The freshness of scene, with the dew drops on the petals of the pink flowers of spring, invited me to take the picture.Editing
I did very minimal post-processing on this in Lightroom. The photo was shot in raw and was already quite nice straight out of the camera. I just did some, cropping, contrast adjustment, color enhancement, and sharpening. In my camera bag
Camera: Nikon D5100. Lenses: Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, Nikon 50mm f/1.8 prime. Tripod. Filters: CPL, Variable ND, Star six. Apart from these, I rent other lenses while going out on a trip. For example, on a recent trip to Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio, I took with me a rented Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 lens.Feedback
As photographers, early mornings and late afternoons/ early evenings are our most precious times, as the light from the sun is soft and warm at these times. But early mornings are especially good for shooting something like this as the morning dew which elevates images like this is still there. As the sun warms up our planet the dew evaporates, and we don't get the nice fresh feeling anymore from a flower shot like this.
