Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a Transportation Museum at night. The scene was especially attractive to me because it tells the story of being at a train depot in the middle of a town.

Time

This is one of my favorite. We were able to be at this location at night from 6 pm-10 pm, with access to photographers only. This was fortunate because it allowed me to get different perspectives until i had the perfect shot to tell the story and pull the viewer in.

Lighting

The lighting was just at dusk, shortly after the sunset had fully set. I wanted the lights on the street as well as others to be the main focus on giving the photograph character and natural lighting. It was shot at night with Aperture f/4.0, ISO 100 , Shutter 1/3, focal 550/10

Equipment

The camera used is a Nikon D 3200, lens 55-200 mm. It was important to use a tripod, with a cable release control in order to get the correct exposure, and no camera motion.

Inspiration

The inspiration for this photo was to get the feel of being at an active train depot and tracks even though it is actually at museum site with just displays of trains. I have always enjoyed trains so I wanted my joy to come through in the composition of this photo.

Editing

The only post- processing on this photograph was to adjust the vibrancy, and clarity to help enhance the lighting.

In my camera bag

The normal equipment I carry in my bag is my Nikon D3200, and Nikon point and Shoot. My lens for the D3200 are 15-50mm, and 55-200mm. My flash, different filters, extra batteries, SD Cards, Ziploc Bag and Rain covering to protect my camera during inclement weather.

Feedback

For night shots, always have a tripod, and cable release cord. Be patient for the scene to be clear of unwanted people, always check for objects that will detract from the main focus of the photo. Take many photos with different settings in order to get the one shot.
