Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Niagara Falls, Canada side. I was a very new photographer at the time.

Time

This photo was the first time I had ever tried night or low photography. It was my first time at Niagara Falls and this view from my hotel was just calling to be captured. It was taken around 11:00 pm.

Lighting

My main goal was to capture the blueish purple and yellow colors together. The lights change color but I found the red color made the photo look washed out. I simply made sure my room was dark so the focus was solely on the Falls.

Equipment

This was shot with my very first camera, A230 with stock lens and a tripod.

Inspiration

I had seen so many photographs of The Falls before so I was super excited when I got the chance to capture it myself. I wanted the 'smokey' effect on the water so I was determined to stay there all night until I got it lol.

Editing

No post-processing.

In my camera bag

My equipment is pretty simplistic. I'm not a huge post-processor and I love abstract photography. I have a Sony A58, Zoom Lens, ND Filter, external flash...that's about it! I like to keep my gear simple so I can take it when I'm on motorcycle.

Feedback

PATIENCE!! OMG, you need patience! Don't be afraid of your equipment, see how the photograph changes when you slow down the F/Stop, when you increase the white balance, etc. Just have fun!
