Location
This image was taken at one of my favorite surf spots called Pipe in Port ElizabethTime
It was at sunset which would generally be behind me but the sky lit up so brightly it lit the clouds up.Lighting
Sometimes the best sunsets happen after the sun has gone down.Equipment
Canon 600D, Sigma 18-50 f2.8 and a no name tripod with legs that and contract as sand has gotten in the gears.Inspiration
My x fiance and I had just broken up and I needed to get away from my pc and editing. I went to the beach and could relate to this bird that was just watching the ocean. It was there for possibly an hour. I ran to my car to get my camera and tripod and photographed the bird. The first few images were taken at ISO 400 f8 and a shutter speed of 1/160 and then I started slowing the shutter speed until this shot where it was 2 seconds. any slower than that, the bird moved. I probably took 8 shots that day and this was my favorite.Editing
I shoot in RAW as ones sensor doesn't have the dynamic range that ones eye has. I brought down the highlights and put an exposure gradient over the sky darkening it to see what I saw.In my camera bag
I usually have two bodies. As a wedding photographer- it is essential to have one as a backup. So I have a Canon eos 70D aswell as the Canon eos 600D with a Sigma 18-50 f2.8. I have the Canon 50mm f1.8 and then I often rent the Tamron 70-200 f2.8. I also have a GODOXv860 flash as well as an old Sigma flash, Yongnou triggers and a reflector In the studio I use the Fuji X-T1 with a 35mm lens. I love how sharp and light the Fuji isFeedback
Don't delete until you have put it on your computer. I assumed this shot would have a blurry bird and it didn't. It is my favorite shot I have ever taken. As well as you don't need the best equipment to take awesome photographs. The best equipment I have I wont take to the beach
