Location
This was taken in what I loosely call my back yard. I live in the woods. I left an area of wild plants without mowing just so I might find scenes like this one.Time
This was taken in the morning, I believe about 8 or 9 o'clock.Lighting
This was in an area of heavier morning shade, and I like to shoot with low iso, so I used a flash.Equipment
This was taken handheld with a Canon 5d mk ii, ef 100mm f2.8 usm lens, 430 ex2 flash.Inspiration
Macro is my favorite style. I try to shoot other things, but invariably return to this. A common question for me is how I manage to find these things, and my answer is because I've practiced looking. Macro lets me show others what they are usually too inattentive to see.Editing
I always shoot in RAW, so processing is a must. My standard program is Lightroom, which is what I used here. I try to present what I saw as closely as possible without modification, and can usually accomplish that within Lightroom, though I occasionally tweak with add-ins.In my camera bag
I probably carry too much. Canon 5d mk ii (usually carried outside the bag with one of the lenses), ef 100-400mm f4-5.6L, ef24-105mm f/4L IS USM, ef 100mm f2.8L, ef 50mm 1.8, 2 extra camera batteries, extra flash batteries, extra CF cards, lens cleaner.Feedback
Spring is a fantastic time for macro just about anywhere. Find an area with flowers and be patient. Movement will keep your subjects away, so stay put, with camera at the ready so you can catch them (on camera) without scaring them.
