Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the top of a mountain in Athens in an abandoned sanitarium.

Time

If i am not mistaken we arrived at the place late in the afternoon. Our first reason of going was to shot some timelapse of Athens in sunset and we randomly roamed in the building for a few minutes before we leave because we were curious.

Lighting

We were lucky enough that day. There was a storm in the morning, so as you can see in the picture there was a huge rain cloud that gave us the best diffused light we could ask.Natural light and that soft is hard to find it in Greece.

Equipment

This was shot in a Nikon D800 with a Nikkor 24mm on a tripod witch i rembere because we had no gloves and it was frozen so we had a hard time moving it around.

Inspiration

I've visited this place before but not with my camera so i wanted to go and grab some photos. So i took my who owns the Nikon D800 that i shot the photo and went to the mountain.I placed my camera on nice spot to shot a timelapse and we searched the place to see what we can shoot. When you see a place like this with the graffitis, broken walls, wooden floor and this great natural light you will know in the spot that you can shot a nice photo because everything fits nicely.

Editing

I originally shot this on HDR.I took seven exposure and combined the later.I tried to keep it as subtle as i could so i didn't processed it a lot.

In my camera bag

My canon 600D,canon 50mm,a mini tripod, some cleaning stuff for my lense,a flashlight, extra batteries,a charger and ocasionally i add to these what else i need.

Feedback

When i went to that i started shooting time-lapse and as i was waiting i started searching the place.I didn't plan beforehead to shoot this photo.Sometimes you just have to take your camera, walk around, look for something intresting with good light and decide what is the best way to shoot what you see.Searching and exploring sometimes can produce a cool photo and make you an even better photographer to capture something on the spot or finding a way to make something you just saw interesting.
