Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on a dike that borders the edge of the Florida Everglades.

Time

This photo was taken at sunset

Lighting

This was all natural light, specifically a sunset. Florida has some beautiful sunsets especially out over the Everglades after a storm has passed.

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon D300 and a Tokina 12-24 f/4 lens on top of a Gitzo tripod and Really Right Stuff ballhead.

Inspiration

I love shooting in the Everglades and I love sunsets and while I was driving back from another location the impending sunset caught my attention. I drove off road and found a dike I could walk on and setup my gear for the shot.

Editing

This shot was actually a 5 shot HDR image. I combined the photos in Photomatix and then did some editing of the combined HDR image in Lightroom and Photoshop.

In my camera bag

My gear usually varies on what subject(s) I'm shooting. For landscapes like this, I usually have my tripod, ballhead and a wide angle lens to work with. I also have numerous filters I used as well.

Feedback

The only advice I have is patience and timing. You have to be at the right spot at the right time and just wait for that perfect moment to click the shutter to capture the image.
