Behind The Lens

Location

This particular photo was taken while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in the Canada Agua Caliente Valley next to Warner Springs California.

Time

We stopped for lunch in this magical grove of California Live Oaks around 1 pm and the sun was peaking though the tree tops, pending a good amount of my childhood in the hills surrounding San Diego areas like this bring the kid out in me and I can imagine a meriad of enchanted scene here.

Lighting

As in most out door shots, with the exception of early morning and late afternoon, its a matter of "Right place, right time!"

Equipment

I had my Nikon D7100 with a 18-55mm lens, I don't have alot of space in my pack hiking with kids so this lens allows me the most deversity. I used an old fence post to steady the camera.

Inspiration

My 5 year old daughter saying "Daddy do you think that's where the fairies live?" I try to keep a child eye and enjoy everything I see but having kids really helps hammer home how much even I miss.

Editing

On this particual shot I adjusted the contrast and color balance the original was dark and washed out. I use PhotoScape alot, it is free and it dose almost everything that the bigger programs do and I can do it quickly. If a picture needs a lot of help I will usually use Corel.

In my camera bag

Obviously my Nikon, any lens I can fit in, I take a small water proof Samsung for adverse weather or getting too close to water (or let my son loose snapping shots, a first aid kit and an adventurous spirit.

Feedback

Don't be afraid to lug your camera around with you, I always see the most amazing shot when I have nothing to take them with!
