This photo was taken on State Rt. 2 in Ottawa County Ohio! I am a self taught photographer and a bird nerd! Photography has become my passion in life!Time
I took this picture on April 26, 2015 at about 2:00PM! The Eagles were presenting beyond anything I had ever seen! Look at how defined the talons are and the feathers just pop!Lighting
One of the ways that I destress is to go to Rt. 2 in Ottawa County Ohio! I call it my playground! The weather was absolutely gorgeous for a day of birding! There wasn't a cloud in the sky and the sun was perfect! I sat across from this one for about an hour just waiting for him to leave so that I could try to get an amazing in flight shot! Mission accomplished!Equipment
I was shooting on this day with a Nikon D5300 using a Af S Nikkor 55 - 300 mm F 4.5- 5.6 Nikon lens. I utilized my lens hood for a clearer shot since the sun was so bright! I just wanted to make sure there was no glare on the shot!Inspiration
My Aunt Mary in Shelbyville, Indiana called me one day in November of 2009 and told me about an Eagle Cam in Norfolk, Virginia at the Botanical Gardens! She had been watching it and thought I would enjoy it! I was hooked! The eagles were my Spark bird which is the bird that got you started in birding! I couldn't watch enough video cams! These birds are just amazing! I have been a follower of Raptors since! My Aunt could never have known that what she introduced me to came at one of the lowest times of my life! I will be forever grateful to you Aunt Mary!Editing
To tell you the truth I am always editing my pictures. This one is seriously just cropped 2 times! When I looked at it the first time I could not believe my eyes. It was the first time ever that I took an amazing shot on one try! God was with me on this one!In my camera bag
I don't understand a lot about the lenses, however in my bag I always have my Nikon D7200, a Nikkor AF 55-300mm lens, a Nikkor AF 18-140mm lens, and recently started using and carrying a Tamaron AF 250-500mm lens, a lens ball, my tripod and binoculars.Feedback
The only advice I can give to someone is Patience! That shot literally took me about 6 years to capture! I had good shots before, but this was one of the most amazing I had ever taken up to that point! If you want to destress or just try something new take up photography and nature! The two are what the perfect relationships are made of. You will have good and bad days but in the long run...it's worth it!
