Behind The Lens

Location

Niagara Falls, from the Maid of The Mist boat

Time

Can't remember the exact time, but in the afternoon after a full day of Niagara Falls sightseeing

Lighting

Best part about this picture is it is all natural. No post-processing, editing, flashes, or anything else. Just being in the right place at the right time

Equipment

This was actually taken with a Canon G9. Not my typical gear (Nikon D700), but a nice little camera at the time. Made it easy to get the picture without having to worry about the mist from the waterfall

Inspiration

It's easy to take a picture of the Niagara Falls from the scenic lookouts, but you don't get a full appreciation for how big and powerful it is from up there. Being down at water level truly shows how how amazing this site really is.

Editing

None. This one is all natural

In my camera bag

My standard gear is a Nikon D700 with a Nikkor 24-85mm lens. I also carry the Nikkor 70-200mm f4 and 50mm f1.8. On occasion I will bring along a lightweight tripod as well.

Feedback

This is a great example of getting a different viewpoint than the crowd. You see tons of photographers lined up along the viewpoints around the Falls, but not many setting up on the ferry to take pictures. Finding the right angle or perspective can make the difference. Also helps to travel around and find interesting sights to capture.
