Behind The Lens

Location

I actually snapped this in my bedroom one sleepless night. I was exceptionally restless and decided to challenge myself by taking photos without leaving my bed. So, of course, I began taking photos of the only nearby subject I could manipulate: myself.

Time

I'd say this took place somewhere from 1am - 5am... 'twas a long night.

Lighting

The only lighting I had available (without breaking the rules of my challenge and leaving my bed) was my bed lamp, which gives off a surprising amount of light.

Equipment

No fancy equipment. I used my regular Canon Rebel xt with no flash aaaand I cannot remember which lens I used.

Inspiration

I feel like I always spend so much time looking at (and taking pictures of) the things around me that I never take the time to look at and admire the art that's right in front of me. The human body is a beautiful thing and deserves to be appreciated.

Editing

Only post-processing I did was a minor contrast boost. I somewhat regret not taking the shadows down a bit more but I was trying to keep editing as minimal as possible at the time.

In my camera bag

I honestly can't even tell you at this point. My life is currently "under construction" as a nineteen year old trying to figure the world out.. so, for right now, I mostly just carry my Canon over my shoulder as I make my trek through this next stage and snap pictures on the way.

Feedback

Just take a moment to find something you see everyday and start shooting it. Break it down, find different and unique ways to compose a photograph with it, look at it in a way you've never seen it before. It's an excellent practice for a creative block. As for the science behind the photo... a shallow depth of field, one light source, and a dark background is the best advice I can give. And shoot in RAW. RAW is awesome. It's RAWsome.
