Location
I came across this abandoned cottage in the woods where the remains of Nettleham hall stand in the Lincolnshire countryside. It was a happy surprise to find this still standing in a clearing seemingly untouched presumably since the hall itself burnt down in the 1930's. It likely dates back to the 1800's along with the hall itself.Time
Mid-afternoon (ish).Lighting
Being mid-afternoon on a bright sunny day the sun coming in through the canopy of leaves behind the cottage cast it in kind of a brilliant green glow.Equipment
Honestly can't remember which kit I was using on this particular day. I've always shot Nikon.Inspiration
The glowing light as I entered the clearing and this old cottage was honestly beautiful. I would've been happy to have missed the hall itself having discovered this spot.Editing
I processed this version black and white to try to pull forward the filagree effect in the foliage and the seemingly twisted old tree which contrasts the texture of the old stone work. I hoped it would give a feeling of the age of the place. In my camera bag
These days I carry a Nikon D7100, Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 (which is bit of a beast), Nikon 10-24mm f3.5-4.5, Nikon 55-300mm f4.5-5.6. Along with various Hoya filters and general bits and bobs. One thing I always carry now is the Nikon DR angle finder which is expensive for what it is but a fantastic bit of kit. I do try to keep it as light as possible as I'm mostly hiking through the woods and countryside with my kit.Feedback
If you're heading somewhere specific to shoot don't get tunnel vision on the journey and explore your surroundings.
