Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Shakhari Bazar street, which is known as one of the narrow street situated at Old Dhaka, Bangladesh. This street is famous for celebrating Hindu festivals, specially Holy. Every year thousands of people gather here to celebrate Holi Festival from different races.

Time

This is one of my favorite shot from the very last Holi festival. It was very crowded from the very beginning of the morning. I was just looking for a shot with a group of people by which I can show the unity among different races along with the spirit and joy of Holi Festival. After waiting for hours finally I got this shot at 1:10 PM, 6 March 2015.

Lighting

The main challenge about the street of Shakahri Bazar is light. This street is surrounded by 4/5 storied buildings. So sometimes its tough to manage light. For this photo I was standing on this place for hours as there were some light coming between the thin gap between two buildings. I have just used the natural day light source.

Equipment

For this photo I used my Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 28mm f2.8 lens.

Inspiration

I had been working on Holi Festival of Bangladesh for many years. But every year I feel like to go India to take photos of Holi Festival. The atmosphere and the ambiance is quite amazing and colorful in India rather than Bangladesh. The photos from India, specially the work of Daniel Berehulak and Bernat Armangue regarding Holi Festival have inspired me a lot. So it was a big challenge for me to produce a good photo from Bangladesh as the Holi Festival is not such big as India. But as I always believe that you should make the best use of what you have to produce a good image.

Editing

As I am a photojournalist, I'm always on hurry. I have to submit photo to Nur Photo Agency everyday, as I am working with them as a photojournalist. So I barely have time to do some post production. But for this photo I made a little adjustment with contrast and clarity.

In my camera bag

I always use my Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 28mm f2.8. Along with this I always carry a notepad, pen, raincoat and a lens wood attached with plastic paper to use it as a water protection. But when I travel out of my town I add my laptop, portable hard drive and extra CF cards.

Feedback

I personally think that the best advice to produce a good photo or photo like this is to make the best use of what you have and "No Compromise" to yourself. The good result will come for sure, no doubt about that.
