Location
I took this photo in the Jungle of Chang Mai Thailand. We were on an sightseeing tour when I came out of the brush/trails that is when I saw this Elephant.Time
This photo was taken at 1600 on a bright sunny day.Lighting
The lighting is all natural. With the sun coming through the trees and the undergrowth it made for a nice natural lighting effect. It was perfect setting for me to shoot.Equipment
At that time I used a Canon Rebel XT 350D on automatic settings, my lens that I used was a Canon 18-55mm and my focal length was at 5mm. My ISO was set at 200, f/stop was set at 5.6. Exposure was 1/60 sec with 0 stop. I shot this picture as I was hand holding my camera.Inspiration
Well my inspiration was this, it was totally an accident or a chance shot. I was on this tour just shooting flora & fauna not expecting to see this. So when we came out off of the trail that we were on that is when I saw this Elephant taking a bath in the Mekong River. So I just starting instantaneously shooting this Elephant, because I didn't know how long I had before it went away. Elephants are sacred in Thailand and are worshiped as gods so to see on in the wild was an added surprise.Editing
I had to do some tweaking of the photo because of the way the lighting and the jungle kinda brought a haze in the shot. So I ran it through Adobe Photoshop HDR to clear it up and do some cropping and color corrections. In my camera bag
Now I carry a Canon T1i with a battery pack and two extra LP-E5 batteries, two TTL Flashes w/defusers, a tripod, a table tripod, and extension tube for macro shooting, a Canon 18-55mm macro EF-S stabilizer lens, a Canon 75-300 zoom lens. Also in my bag is a remote control switch, a remote cable, several filters for color enhancements, start filters, UV, and Polarizing filters. I also have a wide angle adapter lens and a 2x converter lens.Feedback
Well I learned photography by buying Photography magazines and then going out to trying to mimic the photo's that I liked, it took awhile but I was able to learn the specifics. I also learned my camera and how to use all accessories and how to use outside lighting especially ambient lighting which is the best natural lighting. I had my camera preset so that when a surprise shot came along I was able to get it. I found out that those one of kind photos only come around once is a while with warning and if you miss it it's gone forever. So I try not to miss those special shots.
