Location
This photo was taken at the Renaissance Festival in Gold Canyon, Arizona. I grew up in the Northern Arizona so most of my photos are taken in the mountains rather than the desert that most people think of when they think of Arizona, this is one of the exceptions as I happened to be in the valley on this day.Time
On the day this photo was taken my 3 best friends and I woke up early to drive 3 hours to the renaissance fair, we spent the day there eating and having fun. I took this photo during the golden hour on that spring afternoon just as the sun was setting over the desert and we were getting ready to drive back north.Lighting
As any photographer knows the golden hour is an absolutely magical time to shoot. Because of this I did not need any lighting other than the sun, the sun setting behind the poppies gave them the amazing definition in all the tiny details of this photo.Equipment
I shot this photo with my Canon 1000D using my 18-200 Sigma lens.Inspiration
The golden hour has a special way of making every thing you look at even more beautiful. During this time of day it is not difficult to find inspiration everywhere. These flowers were at the base of a tree and the sunlight was hitting them in the most perfect way, I couldn’t help but get a few shots.Editing
I did not do any post processing past a few minor adjustments to the exposure to make the flowers stand out more.In my camera bag
I am very minimalist when it comes to my bag. I always have my Canon 70D with me, even if I don’t actually have my camera bag with me at the time. I generally always have my Sigma 18-200mm lens on my camera and I keep a 8mm lens in my bag. Other than those important things I have a external flash, hot shoe transmitters, batteries, and a charger for my camera.Feedback
Anyone can take a photo of a flower, they are everywhere and easy to find. But the trick to getting one worth while is making sure there is something different or unique about it. For this image the light gave it that wow factor; but it also has a different composition, the stems and flowers are arranged in a way that you don’t generally see. To capture images like this good lighting is key and it is also very important to have at least one part of the flower in focus for detail.
