I was walking around a park while on vacation in Port Townsend, WA, and saw this flower. At the time, I was not thinking of anything other than the flower was pretty. But the picture has turned out far better then I had imagined.Time
I remember it was in the early afternoon after the morning rain. The sun was warm and the ground dried fairly quickly. I had walked to the park and taken my camera with me by chance, in hopes of getting a good photo at some point. I am lucky I had done so. Sometimes it is just being in the right place at the right time. Taken June, 21st, 2014.Lighting
I enjoy using natural lighting, partly because I am almost always outdoors and and it can be more than a little bit of pain to drag equipment with me. When I took this photo I managed to get such vibrant colors, even though it was still cloudy, that I just left it as is.Equipment
This was shot with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS. Using a Micro lens and a steady hand. No flash, the one I did take with a flash was completely washed out.Inspiration
I did almost had forgotten my camera when I went on my walk. My boyfriend at the time had to remind me, and I turned around to retrieve it before going to far. The sun was peaking though the clouds some as we walked and I had been hoping for a few photos of the beach and lighthouse that I had spotted the day before. But when we arrived, between the clouds and stormy looking water I couldn't get a good shot. After that I started wondering around and happened to find the garden. I took the chance and snapped the photo you see here.Editing
I do try not to edit my photos in any way. I left this one, just the way I took it. If I do any edits, it is just a little bit of light adjustments. In my camera bag
I tend to go light when I go out. I always have two lens, Macro Lens for Canon EF ? 100mm ? F/2.8, and 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Telephoto Zoom Lens. I keep my Canon Rebel body, since that is the only one I have and a few cleaning cloths in case I need them. Lastly I will have a few extra memory cards, normally 64 GB.Feedback
My advice is take your camera everywhere with you. I cannot even come close to counting all the times I have forgotten mine and ended up wishing I had it with me. Everyday trips hold small surprises and can be caught at the oddest times. Also, notice the small things around you. Do not just look at the scenery, but at the ground at your feet as well.
