Location
I took this photo out in the mesa in the middle of Rio Rancho, NM. It is an undeveloped area surrounded by houses and there are a ton of random dirt roads. I go jogging out there a bunch, and can walk to them from my house. We (the model and I) ran out to grab the shot real quick, and I had to bring my son. So I was lying in the road, with my son strapped to my back and he kept trying to stand up as I was shooting. It was like trying to shoot in a moving vehicle.Time
I took this right before dusk, the road runs directly east to west. I love shooting at that time of day.Lighting
The dirt kicks up in the breeze and creates a haze that filters the sun a bit. It is perfect for shooting into to.Equipment
This was shot using a Nikon D7000, and a 50mm 1.8 lens.Inspiration
I actually took this photo for a 12 month project I was doing and the theme was "black and white". I had a free moment with a friend, and we decided to see what we could come up with. She is a huge yoga fan, so I was pushing her to pose a but differently from the beauty shots we normally do.Editing
All the post-processing for this was done in Lightroom. I converted the image to black and white first, and them added in contrast as needed. In my camera bag
My bag is packed! I have my Nikon D7000, a 50mm 1.4 (I've upgraded), a wide angle 18-55mm (which I rarely use) and a reflector. I also have bobby pins, chapstick, binder clips, fashion tape, bubbles, and TicTacs.Feedback
Try working on shooting at different perspectives. I was laying down completely on the ground when I shot this. And I was pushing the model to try something different with her posing. I figured that if it didn't work, I just wouldn't use it.
