Since this photo is very very old, I did not know anything about Photoshop or Lightroom. For this photo, I have only applied a light sepia filter from Picasa.In my camera bag

Just look for trees during peak sunlight hours. In India, we have very intense sunlight around 12 PM which usually casts strong shadows. So just be on the lookout for such a scene.
