This photo was taken in my home and actually came as a surprise to me. I've always had an interest in photography but never taken any classes and feel as though I got lucky to capture this moment. I employed a bit of a misdirection as I hid her pacifier under the lights to get her engaged.Time
This was taken early in the morning just after my daughter woke up. I had everything out, ready to decorate the tree and just wanted to see her eyes light up first thing in the morning with something fun.Lighting
There was a bit of early daylight coming in through the windows but I had shut off all of the lights in the room to give my daughter the full effect of the Christmas lights. The result was fantastic.Equipment
Surprisingly this was shot with nothing more than an iPhone 5 held in my hand.Inspiration
I still believe in "The Spirit of Christmas" as an adult and enjoy seeing the wonder and amazement on kid's faces around the holidays. I still get a smile when I see Christmas trees all lit up and I wanted to capture my daughter's first experience with Christmas Lights.Editing
I used the iPhone's photo application to convert the image to Black & White, other than that this is original. In my camera bag
I have a Nikon D3200 and a tripod and monopod, I've not gotten much into the different lenses but hope to expand my "bag of tricks" as I start to learn and develop my skills.Feedback
Early morning or early evening to have some natural light I think was a huge plus. I wasn't really intending for the result I received but will use this technique going forward. Also, the pacifier under the lights was a way to engaged my daughter as at first she just seemed like a fussy baby sitting in a pile of lights. Once she started moving them she seemed very interested.
