Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken near city of Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. There is an abandoned gas station where this broken down truck was located. Behind me there is a busy highway. One week after taking this photograph, truck was removed from the property and scrapped.

Time

We were approaching late evening, as you can see from long shadows behind my model. Setting sun was giving rusty truck wonderful bronze hue. This was one of last frames I took that evening, and i am glad I waited for it.

Lighting

My main light was natural light, setting sun. In order to bring out Meghan's beautiful face, I used off camera flash.

Equipment

Camera used is Canon 5D mark III with Tamron 24-70 mm f 2.8 VC. Single off camera speedlite, Canon ex580 II, was remotely triggered with Pocket Wizard Plus III. Small softbox was used to soften the light from the speedlite..

Inspiration

Decaying building in the back, totally broken down rusty truck and beautiful model. I love the contrast in the picture, it is a classic cliche. Automotive photography and Pin Up style are my personal favourites, and I have to say, rusty cars and truck truly inspire me.

Editing

All the post-process was done in Lightroom. Minimal exposure adjustment, luminance, saturation and vibrance adjustments were made as well as sharpening adjustment.

In my camera bag

Besides my Canon 5D mark III, I carry Canon EF 50mm f1.4, Canon EF 70-200 mm f4, Canon EF 17-40 mm f4, Canon EX580 II and couple of Pocket Wizards
