Behind The Lens
Location
This photograph was shot in the town of Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria, United Kingdom. I am an amateur photographer who loves to shoot street scenes as I find them.Time
The photograph was shot late morning on 20th September 2014 whilst I was on a visit to the town with my wife and friends.Lighting
This was shot under overcast but natural daylight.Equipment
I used a Fujifilm X-T1 camera with an XF 10-24mm f/4 Fujinon lens set at 24mm, f/9, ISO 200 and a shutter speed of 1/30 sec. The shot was taken handheld but employing the builtin OIS in this lens.Inspiration
I love 'street' photography and often have a camera with me when visiting towns and city's. By it's nature street photography depends on the photographers ability to see what is occurung around them and having the ability to anticipate a developing scene. Nothing is staged. I record what I see. This little episode occurred, by chance, as I was waiting outside a shop for my wife. I was actually checking the view of The Royal Hotel through my view finder intending to photograph it as an architectural shot as these people and the dog walked into my frame. I couldn't believe my luck when the lady stopped to check her shoe.Editing
I shoot in RAW and convert with minimal processing to jpg in Adobe Lightroom. I also convert to black and white in Silver Efex Pro 2. I try to get my images right in camera and carry out minimal post processing. In my camera bag
I carry minimal equipment in my bag, camera body, one or two lenses, spare battery and SD card and not a lot else. On the occasion I took this shot I was unusually using a zoom lens, albeit a wide angle zoom. I would normally use a prime lens 35mm or 50mm which means getting close in to the action.Feedback
Street photography is about blending in and being as inconspicuous as possible so as not to disturb the natural dynamic on the street. Big cameras and big zoom lenses are a no no. The same goes for clothing and camera bags. Look natural, look like anyone else on the street, be prepared to wait for the shot to develop, never stage a shot, blend in.
