Location
This photo was taken on a quiet autumnal morning at Calderglen Country Park in East Kilbride, Scotland.Time
This is one of my favourite images taken at a park I've visited many times over the years growing up. I visited early in the morning not really knowing what to expect and was greeted by this autumnal wonderland. There wasn't a soul in sight and the forest was still and peaceful and I wanted to capture that feeling in my image. I shot this image on a leaf lined woodland path within the park at eye level to really make the viewer feel like they are there themselves.Lighting
The natural light within this scene is what makes it so special for me. There was just enough cover from the trees to create a little mysterious darkness however the sunlight shining on the vibrant oranges and browns of the trees illuminated the scene into a autumn paradise.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 550d with a 18-135mm lens.Inspiration
For me, autumn is a short lived season but provides the photographer with countless opportunities to capture really special works of art. At the time of taking this photo, I did not have many autumn shots and wanted to get out and try to add to my portfolio. I chose to visit this location as I knew it would be quiet at this time in the morning and with it being autumn, I assumed the trees and surrounding foliage would be alive with vibrant oranges and golden browns. The winding wooden fence in this image is what made me stop and capture this image. It provides the viewer with a sense of direction through the image as if they were walking the trail.Editing
For this image, I corrected the exposure a little and added a little bit of saturation to make those golden colours pop!In my camera bag
To be very honest, I don't have a lot of photography equipment with me being a typically poor student, however having a good camera and lens along with a tripod is all I believe one needs to capture amazing images. The camera is simply the tool and doesn't make the image successful. That comes down to the creativity and imagination of the eye behind the lens.Feedback
Some of my best images, including this one have come from simply exploring a new place with very little planning. Sometimes you will be unfortunate and will come back with very little, however like me, you will be presented with nature's most stunning creations. I also recommend early mornings to capture images as of course the lighting is usually perfect and there won't be too many people at your location. In capturing an image like this, I would say look for leading lines. There are countless stunning forest photos, however finding a leading line in the form of a path or fence really adds a lot to a forest image and could potentially result in something special.
