Location
I took this on a small lake in Sudbury, Ontario. I don't get to go out shooting much, every time is a new journey. I like trying to find new places to shoot it helps keep my eyes fresh.Time
I never was much of a morning person but I love shooting with my uncle, and tolerated it so I could spend some time with him. That early August morning he had woken me up to catch the sunrise. As 6am approached a thick fog rolled over the lake and surrounding hills. We were both trying to find ways of shooting the landscape, but you couldn't see much aside from the milky mist creeping towards us. So he tied off a canoe, and pushed it out into the lake for some foreground interest.Lighting
All we had to shoot with was the pre dawn sunlight, and what was left of the moonlight. The light diffusion the fog created was perfect to set the mood.Equipment
This was shot with on hand held nikon d90 and a AF-S nikkor 18-55 3.5-5.6, f/22, 1/250, iso 400.Inspiration
Honestly, it's all in the moment sometimes. You always go out shooting hoping for the best but in cases like this it's purely dumb luck. That's why I shoot, push yourself for a chance to watch the world unfold in unexpected ways.Editing
I'm not sure, I had edited this photo a long time ago. My usual work flow starts with colour correcting, and to try to set a mood. I try to use restraint while editing, I want to keep it subtle. I want to people who to see the moments more or less how I saw them.In my camera bag
I have modest bag. Both my bodies were used. I have nikon d90 and d600. I have a 50mm and a 35mm 1.8, as well as the stock 18-55 for my d90, and an AF-nikkor 70-300mm 4-5.6. As well as a handful of low density, and polarizing filters. I wish I had more, and I try to snoop out deals, but It's a hard knock life for amateur hobbyists.Feedback
Honestly, in my experience most things worth shooting happen before 7am. So wake up, and just keep shooting.
