There’s forests all over the country. But not many large ones by me. Being somewhat impaired I have to travel when I can manage it. I wanted to photograph trees, it with an calm and slightly menace at the same time. Going early gave me an opportunity to shoot with a slight mist before the sun took it away. That was early morning, no one about. Not sure if that’s solitude is in the picture. It’s never a case in woods of setting a shot up, but finding a view. The only sound was the light hiss of the wind through the trees, interrupted by my girth wafting through the undergrowth.Time
Early morning, I think.Lighting
The thing about light, Myself, I don’t bother with reflectors or leds, just what’s there, be it dark or light. Moving about changes it all most of the time anyhow. If something’s discovered, found, stumbled upon, why change it with photoshop or flash guns? May be why mine look the way they do. You photograph something, the use computers to enhance and change it all, then why bother, your taking a pic to photoshop not to show what your presenting. Unless it’s a commissioned job,Late evening portrate.Equipment
Can’t remember what Camera it was, it will be on the pic info , hand heldInspiration
Flaneur, simple as that. Walk about, with an objective, a specific thing to record. Sit in one place, wait for something, or walk about looking for something. There’s a few names who do this. The guy who got ken8nto photography to begin with, Joel meyerowits. Then I discovered Doisneau ( big influence) then Bresson, winogrand loads.Editing
No, none. When I was at university there was a book by Susan Sontag, can remember which one, but in it she said, “ photographers have the responceabilty to keep things real”. That’s what I do. So I intentionally never do anything that can’t be done in a dark room or at point of snot.In my camera bag
Normally, most importantly battery’s and extra card. I can’t afford to shoot on film, even though it’s far superior to digital. Always a second lens. Mainly zoom. That’s my essential list. Then flash gun, depending what the job is.Feedback
I think advice wise is do what you do, develop your own way of working. If your looking to do landscape work, research other photographers, there are some truly amazing artists. Sabastiao Salgado did a book called genesis, don mccullin also has done a lot as well. There’s two at differnat angles of landscapes. The famous angel Addams of course. I think, photograph not to photoshop.
