Location
The photo was taken in Oeiras, Portugal.Time
It was during Spring and it was a little bit cold and windy. I was walking around a green space where there was a small lake and I went down to snap the new born chicks of the duck. I vividly remember I went to take a small pause when I suddenly hear some noises around the bush. I zoomed from where I sat and saw two small hare´s babies. They were so sensitive to any slight movement, that I had to hide behind a tree and wait for the moment. It was an afternoon shot.Lighting
It was worth a natural lighting and since I was leaning against the tree, I could enjoy the shade of the tree together with direct light on the subject as well.Equipment
This was a handheld shot with my Canon 7D and 100-400mm USM IS. No other supporting gear used.Inspiration
I am always drawn towards wildlife and specially new born animals. They fit in the frame and does create a very innocent feeling. The most difficult part is to catch the feelings in their eyes. After leaning against the tree for some 4 mins and still not trying to make any hasty movement, I guess the pain of standing still was worth and holding the breath was another technique to let the baby come again in the spot. I knew I had only two shots before he hear the shutter sound and I was lucky enough to have that quick focus.Editing
I really like to spend time on the field rather than behind my computer. I may have spent a min only on photoshop to play with the contrast and shadow slide while adding some vibrance and that´s all ...In my camera bag
I usually carry my Canon 7D+100-400 USM IS mounted together with Canon 100mm F/2.8 USM IS and Canon 10-22mm. I carry my Canon 70-200mm F/2.8 USM on very special trip when I know I will have to deal with lighting conditions.Feedback
Photography is so vague as always ... and I have always believed in practise and patience. The more we develop these two main elements, we can create amazing story telling pictures ...
