This was taken at my favorite place...Cannon Beach by Haystack Rock, Oregon. I moved from Texas to Oregon because of scenes like this. Oregon has the best of many world, the mountains, the desert and the coast. One day, I will have my home by the beach.Time
This was taken during the evening where the tide recedes away from Haystack Rock which is a large Monolith rock. The seagull being there was the cherry on top of the dessert.Lighting
This was the first time that I had been to Haystack Rock in the evening. The sunset was so beautiful and the colors so vibrant. It took my breath away and the moment was so magical that I thanked God for allowing me to witness this special moment. It touched me so much that I began to cry at the beauty of it all.Equipment
I had my Fuji Fine Pix which was my first digital camera. I am self taught and this was just the beginning of the lessons that I was learning. It just was the camera and I. Now, when i go there, I try to bring my tripod.Inspiration
My friend Bill, his sister Judy and I went to Oregon to decided if we really wanted to move there back in 2009. We decided to go to Cannon Beach for a couple of days. We rented at a small local motel the Seagull which was like a tiny home near Haystack Rock. We decided to get closer to the giant monolith and as the evening progressed Bill and Judy decided to go back to the motel. I decided to stay and hang out longer. As the evening progressed the tide receded and I was able to see the marine wildlife in the tidal pools. That was when the light show began. I can't begin to tell you how wonderful it was. It was also the last summer that I was going to spend with Judy. She died of cancer shortly after that. It is because of her that Bill and I were able to move to Oregon a year later. I always give her credit for why I live here today.Editing
Cropping and simple adjustments. I popped out the color just a tad...nature does beautiful work. I let the image speak to me and lead the way.In my camera bag
Oh my gosh....now that it's 2016...times have changed...lol I now have a DSLR...Canon Rebel T3. Thanks to Amazon.com, I have a fish eye lens, my zoom lens (75-300 Canon) and my Canon lens (28-80) which was given to me by my brother. I am hopefully going to the coast with all the above equipment and tripod this weekend.Feedback
Honestly, we know as photographers that it takes some planning but we also know that sometimes we are just at the right place at the right time. Sometimes, we just have to shoot and be aware of our surroundings. For me, it was just noticing that solitary seagull just standing there looking out at the sea by Haystack Rock. I was there as the sun began to set and I didn't have a clue at the time. It was a magical moment for me. It is noticing the simple things and the beauty of nature. This is one of my favorite images and moments. I saw the beauty and the wonder of nature that evening. I always give thanks to God for allowing me to be a witness to it.
