Most 1800's buildings from Porto have one or two skylights due to the construction type of those days, narrow width and long length which causes the houses to be lined side by side, therefore front and rear windows, balconies and-or terraces with a garden at the back, hence the need to place skylights to allow more natural light to enter the building and usually these skylights are aligned with the stair cases. If you visit Porto City Portugal, remember to look up to the roofs of the houses standing in the historical areas like ours for example which is both our house and also a hotel-hostel-cottage and suite with terrace and has a long large garden at the back.
