Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the College I was attending, about 7 years ago now. This was while I was how to do something other than the typical photos. Playing with Lighting can be pretty fun.

Time

This was in a studio, so time of day is not even important.

Lighting

I honestly can't remember what the Boom light (or my camera) was set on, but if I told anymore I'd be giving away my secrets.

Equipment

Nikon D300, Boom Light, Black background, Tripod, and flash remotes.

Inspiration

I loved playing with different ways to creatively use lighting. The dramatic use of lighting just a part of someone's face. I find inspiration in many things. So to say what exactly inspired me at this exact moment is probably the fact that he was a willing body to let me photograph him.

Editing

I am trying to recall exactly what I may have done for this. I would have to say, if I did, it was playing with the levels.

In my camera bag

I carry all sorts of lens filters, 2 lenses, my camera, lens cloth, a sharpie, and my light meter (not that I use it that often).

Feedback

Use only one light. Have it hang over top of the subject. The hood on the jacket is what is blocking the light from the eyes, creating that dramatic look that makes this looks so awesome.
