Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken of the rose bush I used to have in my front yard.

Time

This was taken mid morning in March of 2015, I believe.

Lighting

I was very surprised when I walked out of the house that morning. Everything about it made me go back into the house and grab my camera.

Equipment

I don't remember which one of my Canon cameras I was using. I do remember that I didn't use a flash. Everything was set up great including the lighting.

Inspiration

The sun shining on the roses so perfectly. I am sure it was the end of a L O N G winter and this was one of the first signs that warmer weather was on its way!

Editing

No - I always keep it at a minimum. I try to display my work as close to straight out of the camera as possible. No filters and bare minimum adjustments - cropping sometimes is the only treatment!

In my camera bag

My camera, extra cards, batteries, nifty 50, stock telephoto, light meter, add on flash

Feedback

Be aware of your surroundings. Don't look at your subject from one perspective...if you see something that intrigues you - capture it from as many angles as you can. Sometimes the first thing you see will be your least favorite shot after taking several. Don't delete photos on the go - unless they are absolutely horrible, and by that I mean too blurry to see what the subject is. When you download them on to your computer you might find that you have an award winning photo, it might be the one that you didn't like when reviewing in your view finder. I know everyone says this but the best way to become better at something is to practice every day. Do your homework and network with others. Everyone was inexperienced at the beginning - most photographers will want you to hone your skills and be the best you can be!
