Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at my friends flat in a dull lit room using a plain wall as a backdrop.

Time

This was taken around lunchtime. I had to bribe my friend with offers of free beer afterwards to get him to agree to posing for the photo.

Lighting

I used a SB700 flash on the camera at TTL - nothing special.

Equipment

I shot handheld using a SB700.

Inspiration

One of my best friends has moved to Australia so i wanted to create a unique calendar for a christmas gift for him. I chose a theme for each of my friends within our group and shot an image of them. With this image my friend never shuts up so i thought it would be fitting to have a photo of him all zipped up.

Editing

I made sure when i took the shot his lips were positioned together well. I then took a picture of a zipper and change this to fit the lips. I dodged and burned the zipper to make it blend with the lighting of the picture.

In my camera bag

I generally shoot with my D7100 and carry an 35mm & 18-105mm lens. I also use a SB700 with wireless triggers. I carry a tripod only when i have an image in my head that i know i need it for. I love shooting at wide open apertures so only use the 18-105mm if i can't use my 35mm.

Feedback

My advice for photos like this is to have a clear idea & image in your head before you start and then make sure you do that image justice.
