I took this photo at a reef pass called Cloudbreak in Fiji.Time
This was mid day and there was plenty of sun to come through the water to illuminate the reef.Lighting
The water clarity in Fiji is amazing so shooting underwater you are guaranteed to get something good no matter what the light is doing.Equipment
I shot this on a Canon 60d with a Tokina 10-17 fisheye lens using a Liquid Eye waterhousing.Inspiration
The waves were small this day so I figured I would mess around and try some under water shots. The inside of the reef has a lot more texture and color so it came out really cool as he was duck diving.Editing
For this shot I just did basic color correcting and sharpening, the water is so beautiful there you don't really need to do much.In my camera bag
I usually carry with me two camera bodies, a Canon 7d and a 5d mark iii. As far as lenses I carry a Canon 50mm 1.4, 100-400mm zoom, a Tokina 10-17 fisheye, and a 24mm Rokinon. I use an Essex waterhousing with control backs for both my 7d and 5d.Feedback
A shot like this is all about water clarity, you need to head to a destination like Fiji or Tahiti to get water clear enough for great under water shots. Once you have the clear water its all about grabbing a mask and shooting. You will want a wide angle or fisheye lens in a dome port to get the best results underwater and auto focus is a must as the focus underwater changes drastically from above water.
