This photo was taken at my model's Nasiphi Laila Sobahle residence in Boynton Beach, FLTime
At that time, I believe it was already 7pm EST down here in South Florida.Lighting
Lighting? lol well, it's something that I pieced together with home depot's help. My lighting setup consisted of two clip on lamps from Home Depot with two 100W LED bulbs and two stands that I already had. For a DIY lighting set, It performed really well, which is why I still use them today. If I need a softer light on my subject, I simply put a shower cap over the lights lol :)Equipment
Canon 7D MKii with the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lens. No tripod, No flash.Inspiration
My model, Nasiphi Laila Sobahle, is from South Africa. She's also the crowned Miss Africa Tri State 2014. Her reign is coming to an end this year and she wanted me to take a couple of pictures specifically reflecting her culture, her background etc... We had planned to go ahead with the shoot the weekend before she ventures back home to crown the next Miss Africa Tri State. A few days before, we're sadden by the news of the attack on the school grounds in Kenya. So we decided to at least have one photograph showing our support to the victims of that terror attack. "Pray for Kenya" is what we went with as the title of that specific photograph.Editing
Yes, I did quite a few post processing as I do with 99% of pictures that I take. This particular photograph, I took care of some skin blemishes like: bumps, scares, bruises, cuts. Of course also did some color correction and use the Frequency Separation technique to smooth the skin and make it look uniform. And I must say, thanks to my Make Up Artist, Willine Morestant that did a FANTASTIC job, my work was easier in the post procesing process. In my camera bag
In my camera bag, I usually carry: Canon 7D MKii 32GB class 10 SD Card Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lens Canon 50mm f/1.2L lens Sigma EF-530 DG Super Flash with a soft box sleeve A set of KING's ETTL Flash Triggers Lens cleaning kit I usually carry my makeshift lighting, extension cords, plugs, surge protectors etc in crates, in the trunk of my car.Feedback
Fancy equipment doesn't make your picture any better. Use your imagination and creativity. I'm a prime example. My lighting setup only costed me $60!!! I'm still using it. Be creative and use what's available to you... It's not the equipment but the photographer behind the camera that counts.
